In other societies, adoption is seen differently. In a few Pacific Island societies, children who are adopted are deemed fortuitous since they have two sets of mothers and fathers; children are not presented for adoption because a dad or mum is unwilling or not able to care for them, but instead to honor the adoptive mother and father.
